The History

In 2008, Bob and Sue Krohn — longtime owners of Red Arrow Camp — invited a few alumni to create the Red Arrow Camp Foundation and purchase the camp. This way, the camp’s history, value, and traditions would be safely preserved for future generations. With support from the RAC community, the Red Arrow Camp Foundation purchased the camp in 2012. While we see this as a monumental achievement for the entire RAC family, the Foundation is still in need of donations in order to fund ongoing capital projects, expand our program, and maintain our wonderful facilities.

The Red Arrow Camp Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 registered charity.

Meet The Board

A small and actively engaged Board of Directors leads the Red Arrow Camp Foundation. Each director has specific responsibilities to the Board and to the Foundation, and serves without compensation.

President - Kevin Crockett

Kevin was a seven-year camper in the 70’s and a cookie and six-year counselor in the 80’s. He has been involved with the RACF since 2018. Kevin is retired, having spent most of his professional life leading a company that specialized in assisting colleges and universities to improve their enrollment and fundraising results.

Gerry Cumpiano
Gerry’s career at Red Arrow started in 1995 as a camper and later was a cookie, counselor, and program director. From his first year to 2014, Gerry only missed two Red Arrow summers. He joined the Boesel Board in 2014. He lives in Fort Worth, TX where he works in the Advancement Department at a private school. Gerry is a member of the RACF as of 2024.

Hodges Davis, MD

The Louisiana Hodges/Davis family first drank the waters of Trout Lake in 1968. Hodges, his three brothers, and numerous cousins were part of the first generation of the “Southern Invasion,” of RAC campers and counselors. He joined the board in 2012 and is the father of five RAC campers.

Vice President - Criag Stanley

Craig was a camper from 1977 to 1980 and a counselor from 1984 to 1987. As a
counselor, he was the classic utility man, teaching sailing, tennis, soccer, track, etc. He
joined the Advisory (Boesel) Board in 2014 prior to joining RACF in 2019. Professionally,
Craig owns a commercial real estate advisory firm in Madison, WI. He continues his
utility role with RAC, assisting with leadership development, facilities, and finance.

Kip Jacobs

Kip was a 6 year counselor spanning the years from 1975-1982. He taught photography and was involved with many land sports especially football, basketball and nature.  Working with kids at Red Arrow Camp provided the start to a 45 year teaching career.  His 3 sons also attended Red Arrow Camp, two as campers and one as a camper and counselor. He serves on the Boesel Foundation Scholarship Committee and has been a member of the Charles M. Boesel Foundation/Advisory Board since 1994.

Sue Krohn

Bob and Sue Krohn purchased Red Arrow Camp in 1968 and served as directors for several decades. They sold the camp to the Red Arrow Foundation in 2012 to ensure that it would survive them. In 2015, Sue retired as a director of RAC, but remains engaged as a member of the Foundation.

Timothy B. Lautz, MD

Tim was a 5-year counselor from 2000-2004.  In the years after leaving staff he remained closely involved in camp, particularly in regards to alumni outreach and social media presence.  He created the RAC historical archives, scanning thousands of old photos and historical documents and capturing video from old 16 mm and VHS sources.  He joined the Boesel Foundation in 2010 prior to joining RACF.  Tim is a pediatric general surgeon in Chicago and assists RAC during the summers as volunteer camp doctor.

Phil Marineau

Phil spent 10 years at RAC as a  camper and counselor spanning from 1986-1998. He and his wife Dana have two sons who are current Red Arrow Campers going on year four. Phil joined the Charles M. Boesel Foundation/Advisory Board in 2000 and became an RACF Board member in January of 2023. The family live in San Francisco, CA and have made annual summer pilgrimages to the shores of Trout Lake since 2013.

Treasurer - Chris Meyer

Chris was a five-year camper in the early 70’s, and one-year cookie, and five-year counselor while heading the Rifle and Trap programs his last four years. He is semi-retired, having worked in healthcare finance for thirty years, primarily focused on contract negotiations between Hospitals/Physicians groups and Insurance companies. Before joining the RACF board, Chris served as Treasurer (and continues to do so) on the Charles M. Boesel Foundation/RACF Advisory Board.

Why You Should Support

Red Arrow Camp is fortunate to have passionate and generous alumni whose dedication to RAC endures long after they leave the shores of Trout Lake. Compelled by the life-altering experiences they had as campers and counselors at RAC, these alumni help preserve the tradition of RAC for future generations.

Red Arrow Camp is dependent upon the support and generosity of alumni and others to continue its mission of helping great boys become great men. Since 1967, alumni support for scholarships through the Charles M. Boesel Foundation has helped worthy boys attend camp. In 2012, the Charles M. Boesel Foundation changed its name to the Red Arrow Camp Foundation and purchased the camp from Bob and Sue Krohn. This transition ensured the long-term success of Red Arrow Camp.

Today, Red Arrow is still very much in need of ongoing support from its alumni. The Charles M Boesel Fund, a distinct entity within the larger Foundation, continues its important mission of supporting campers who couldn’t otherwise afford to attend RAC. In addition, the Foundation’s ongoing capital campaign allows us to upgrade and improve the facilities at camp while preserving its unique tradition.

Please support our mission. We encourage you to learn more about the RAC Foundation and the Charles M Boesel Fund in these pages. Donations of any size are very much appreciated.
