Another SAFE great summer at the most popular activity at camp - the Red Arrow Stables. After referred as the “other cabin” the barn is filled this year with 17 horses. 7 returning geldings and 10 new new geldings to Red Arrow and camp. All proved to steady, trust worthy and reliable school horses the provided a safe fun environment for the boys to not only to learn how to ride but, more importantly learned learn how to be a “horseman”. All campers and staff voted on the horse that was the horses that showed up everyday and the new “critter” that reflected the talent of all the new hoses.
Horse of the Year
Driggs: 10 year old registered AGHA gelding. Purchased on the fall as a 4 year old from the Rafter B novel in Driggs Idaho. He started at Red Arrow as a “project horse” and has evolved into the “go to, been there, done that” lesson horse. Trail leader and a great jumper. Many campers have gained experience and confidence from riding Driggs. A gelding of very few that can be rode without a bridle. This is the fifth year in which he has now been voted “Horse of the year”
Rookie of the Year
Otis: 7 year old John Mule. Purchased last fall in the hills of western South Dakota. Standing 16 hands he is a “great” for a Mule, but has the personality and temperament of a puppy. Jet black with 4 high white socks he is uniquely different and from time to time be seen wearing his cowboy hat or baseball cap. Otis has packed elk out of the mountain to safety and has been safely ridden by boys from cabin A to Chateau. Otis was the overwhelming favorite out of the 10 rookies this summer!
